Charly Stoever CNBC Money Make It Feature
I’m honored to be featured on CNBC Money Make It as part of their Millennial Money series. As a trans Latinx money coach, seeing my work and my story represented in mainstream financial media matters deeply. This feature joins past coverage from Cosmopolitan and Lonely Planet, and it reflects the life and business I’ve intentionally built on my own terms.
CNBC Money Make It followed my unconventional approach to work, money, and housing. I live rent-free by pet sitting full time while running my money coaching business remotely, traveling internationally, and helping clients build financial stability without needing a six-figure salary. Everything I own fits into two suitcases, and that simplicity has allowed me to prioritize freedom, savings, and long-term wealth.
One of the most meaningful moments from this feature was naming what it represents for me personally:
“I am my own boss. I am the first trans, Latinx boss I’ve ever had and will ever have.”
That line resonated with a lot of people, and for good reason. For so many LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and first-gen folks, financial freedom isn’t just about numbers. It’s about safety, autonomy, and finally getting to call the shots in a world that hasn’t always made room for us.
What the CNBC Money Make It feature covers
In this piece, CNBC highlights how I:
- Live rent-free through full-time pet sitting instead of paying rising housing costs
- Earn around $60,000 a year while prioritizing debt payoff, credit strategy, and retirement
- Built a net worth of roughly $225,000 without a six-figure income
- Invest consistently through retirement and brokerage accounts
- Design my days around sustainability, self-care, and flexibility instead of burnout
Thanks to networking at Fincon, a reporter approached me to be featured. Being up front about my identity and how I have built wealth made my story an easy sell for the feature!
Avoiding rent has allowed me to invest aggressively, save for the future, and still enjoy my life now — travel, community, and rest included. I love that I get to share how personal finance is PERSONAL.
Why this matters beyond the headline
My work as a money coach is rooted in helping people who rarely see themselves reflected in traditional financial advice. I support LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and first-gen clients in paying down debt, improving credit scores, and building toward a six-figure retirement, even if they don’t make six figures.
The CNBC Money Make It feature shows what’s possible when you stop following rigid financial “rules” and start designing a system that actually fits your values, your body, and your reality.
