Your Mid-Year Money Check-Up: 3 Money Moves to Build Wealth

It’s July, which means we’re halfway through the year.

Most people use this time to reflect on their goals, plan vacations, or think about what they want the rest of the year to look like.

I want you to do something different.

I want you to ask yourself one question:

Is your money working as hard as you are?

One of the biggest myths I hear as a money coach is:

“I’ll start building wealth once I make more money.”

The truth?

You don’t need a bigger paycheck to build wealth.

You need to optimize the money you already have.

Here are the three questions I encourage every client to ask during their mid-year money check-up.

1. Where is your cash parked?

If your emergency fund is sitting in a traditional checking or savings account earning next to nothing, your money isn’t doing its job.

One of the fastest financial wins is opening a high-yield savings account. It usually takes less than 10 minutes and can help your savings earn significantly more interest without changing your spending.

Ask yourself:

  • Is my cash earning a competitive interest rate?
  • Am I paying unnecessary bank fees?
  • Is my emergency fund in the right place?

Sometimes building wealth isn’t about investing more.

It’s simply about putting your money in a better place.

2. Do you have a strategy for your debt?

Debt isn’t automatically good or bad.

The better questions are:

  • What are my interest rates?
  • Which balances should I prioritize first?
  • Am I paying the minimum because it’s strategic—or because I haven’t made a plan?

When you understand your debt, it becomes a math problem instead of a shame problem.

The goal isn’t to feel guilty.

The goal is to become intentional.

3. Have you maxed out your Roth IRA?

If you’re eligible to contribute to a Roth IRA, ask yourself:

  • Am I on track to max it out this year?
  • Is my money actually invested?
  • Do I understand what I’m invested in?

Contributing is only half the equation.

Your money also needs to be invested so it has the opportunity to grow.

The earlier in the year you contribute, the more time your investments have to compound.

Stop Waiting to Make More Money

You don’t need another raise before you start building wealth.

You don’t need the perfect investing strategy.

And you don’t need to have everything figured out.

You just need to start optimizing what you already have.

Whether that’s moving your cash into a high-yield savings account, creating a debt payoff strategy, or finally maxing out your Roth IRA, every decision you make today gives your future self more options.

That’s exactly what I help my clients do inside my private six-month money coaching program.
